Ruta Canadian retailers benchmarked on reporting

Canadian retailers benchmarked on reporting
ImageThirty leading apparel retailers and brands have been scored on the quality of their reporting on supply chain labour standards. The report - Revealing Clothing - rates Levi Strauss as best, followed by Reebok, MEC, Adidas and Gap. Polo Ralph Lauren is the major brand with the lowest score.

The report has been produced by the Canadian Ethical Trade Action Group (ETAG), a coalition of development agencies, unions and faith groups, led by the Maquila Solidarity Network. It utilises the 'Gradient' rating system developed by the standards agency Accountability which produces individual scores for Governance and Risk Management, Code of Labour Standards, Stakeholder Engagement, Management and Supply Chain Auditing and Reporting.

According to the report, there has been some improvement since a similar exercise was undertaken last year, but "none of the 30 retailers and brands surveyed is currently providing sufficient, credible and verifiable information to consumers or investors to allow them to make informed ethical choices".
