Ergon has produced a new guidance note for the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on the processes and standards that should be applied in the provision of workers' housing and other accommodation. The note looks at the various issues that arise in relation to temporary exploration camps, construction camps and dormitories, and seeks to identify the relevant international, national and voluntary standards in each case.
The Guide aims to provide practical assistance to IFC and EBRD specialists and to their clients in receipt of funding. It takes a process-based approach looking in turn at the issues that arise in planning, constructing and then operating facilities. These can range from the scope and process to be used in undertaking a needs assessment at the initial stage, to the sanitation standards and leisure facilities required, and the security and community liaison processes needed to ensure smooth running of the facility once in operation. The Guide contains summaries of applicable international standards as well as examples of good practices that businesses have successfully implemented. The Guide can be downloaded here. |
