A new report by Ergon looks at how far the decent work agenda has been taken up into development planning, with case studies on Bangladesh and Zambia. The report, for the UK Decent Work and Labour Standards Forum, concludes that, while there has been considerable high-level backing for promotion of decent work as a strategy for combating the effects of the global financial crisis, the practical programmes run by donors are rarely oriented around the decent work agenda. |

Ergon has authored a new publication entitled "Beyond auditing – tapping the full potential of labour standards promotion”. The paper was commissioned and published by IDH – the Dutch Sustainable Trading Initiative – to support discussions at their first major conference on November 2. The publication was written by Alastair Usher and Kirsten Newitt from Ergon and begins by considering the business case for addressing labour standards, including the benefits of promoting better and deeper employee engagement.

Ergon has produced a new guidance note for the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on the processes and standards that should be applied in the provision of workers' housing and other accommodation. The note looks at the various issues that arise in relation to temporary exploration camps, construction camps and dormitories, and seeks to identify the relevant international, national and voluntary standards in each case. |

The European Commission Directorate General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities has published a report produced by Ergon looking at EU Member States and International Institutions bilateral co-operation and decent work in relation to 10 partner countries.
The nine-month study examined bilateral and other interventions in the area of decent work between the EU and EU member states and relevant regional and international organisations (among them the EU, ILO, UNDP, WHO, World Bank, EBRD, ADB) and selected emerging economies and strategic partners of the EU, namely China, India, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Russia, Ukraine, Morocco, South Africa and Indonesia.
